Overview
Since the installation of the first stereolithography (SLA) machines, users have attempted to speed up the investment casting process with 3D printed sacrificial models. Many best practices have been developed over the past 30 years, but traditional investment casting has often remained a better solution.
The reason for a preference towards traditional techniques was often down to concerns like residual ash and antimony content left over from 3D printed resins.
In this webinar, Applications Development Specialist at Somos, Kevin Zaras, will examine how the new materials science involved in developing Somos Element resin is addressing those concerns. Could this potentially leave traditional techniques obsolete?
Learning Objectives:
- Discuss the benefits of Stereolithography vs. Traditional Investment Casting.
- The limitations of older investment castings resins
- How Somos’ Element material is a superior solution
Speakers:

Group Editor, TCT Magazine
Having joined team TCT in 2013 after a fairlyeclectic post-graduation career that encompassed writing about football, policing and reality television, Daniel has become obsessed with the world of additive manufacturing and its surrounding technologies. Always on the lookout for the weird and wonderful applications of 3D printing technology, particularly fond of the digitisation for preservation techniques employed by the likes of the Smithsonian Institute.
