Overview
In this 45-minute webinar facilitated by Dr Phil Reeves, delegates will hear from HP, Autodesk and Viaccess-Orca, all leading companies within the AM/3DP value chain and active members of the 3MF Consortium. The webinar will focus on the essential role of data security and standards, as we transition from the current closed AM/3DP ecosystem within development labs and demonstration centers to a future of digitally distributed manufacturing.
Phil Reeves will start by introducing the concept of the ‘digitally distributed supply chain’ and the emerging needs of industry to consider data security, data traceability and end-to-end interoperability between 3D design data and part manufacturing technology.
Alain Nochimowski from VO will then introduce a parallel, yet more mature digitally distributed value chains. Addressing how data has been securely transferred and monetized within the Pay-Tv sector over the last 20-years.
Addressing the benefits of standards to AM/3DP, Martin Weismann from Autodesk will then move on to discuss the newly released secure content specification, which has recently been developed and deployed by the 3MF Consortium. The secure content specific provides a common framework against which companies across the AM/3DP eco-system can ensure secure end-to-end interoperability of data.
Extending the data-flow through to hardware, Scott White from HP will then discuss what the secure content specification means to AM/3DP vendors such as HP. Scott will address how data interoperability and traceability from design-to-part can benefit both design content originators and AM/3DP hardware owners alike.
Alain Nochimowski from VO will end the webinar with an introduction to the new VO Secure Manufacturing Platform (VO-SMP).
The webinar will end with a facilitated Questions and Answer session.
Learning Objectives:
- Why are data standards vital for the future growth and deployment of AM/3DP within the Industry 4.0 supply chain?
- What is the new 3MF Consortium Secure Content Specification?
- How will 3D CAD vendors and AM/3DP hardware vendors embrace data standards and interoperability for the benefit of technology users?
- What can the AM/3DP industry learn from more mature industries such as Pay-Tv in terms of data security, traceability, analytics and monetization
Speakers:
Scott White
Distinguished Technologist, 3D Software and Data, HP, Inc.
Scott is a senior technologist at HP with a focus on software systems enabling Additive Manufacturing to be adopted and scaled for final part production. He has a long history of defining and evangelizing standards for interchange protocols and content formats in 3D and traditional print and was HP’s founding member of the 3MF Consortium. Scott believes strongly that Additive Manufacturing will only become a mainstream approach to fabrication when the design-to-product pipeline is seamless and efficient, but that seamlessness must be balanced against the ability of product designers and content owners to control access to and use of their designs.
Martin Weismann
Principle Engineer
Martin Weismann is an expert for software development and additive manufacturing. As Principal Software Engineer for Autodesk's additive manufacturing software portfolio he shapes the way designers and engineers bring their digital creations into existence using 3D printing technologies. Before joining Autodesk in 2016, Martin specialized in computational physics and graduated from University College London with a PhD in electrical engineering.
In addition, Martin represents Autodesk as contributing member in the 3MF Consortium. He promotes improvements and extensions of the 3MF format and strengthens the ecosystem around 3MF. Martin is an advocate for open source software and maintains two open source projects, one of which is a reference implementation of the 3MF format.

Alain Nochimowski
EVP Innovation
Alain Nochimowski is the Executive Vice President of Innovation at Viaccess-Orca. Alain is responsible for leading VO’s innovative initiative. He is spearheading VO’s Industry4.0. Prior to this position, Alain led business development activities, first at Orca Interactive, and following the merger with Viaccess, at the new entity Viaccess-Orca.Alain was responsible for leading VO’s entry strategy into new markets and ventures, and for creating a supportive industrial ecosystem for VO’s new products and technologies. Before joining Orca Interactive in 2009, Alain held various business development and technical strategy positions successively at Orange, Viaccess and SanDisk, in New York, Paris and Tel Aviv.Throughout his career, Alain initiated and successfully lead multiple innovation projects that notably resulted in dozens of issued patents and strategic sales to large content service providers. Alain graduated from Ecole des Mines de Paris.
Dr. Phil Reeves
Managing Director
Dr Phil Reeves is a leading consultant on Additive Manufacturing & 3D Printing business strategy and technology investment. Phil has worked in the field of AM/3DP for over 25-years, having gained a PhD in the subject from Nottingham University (UK) in the mid-1990s. In 2003 Phil founded global AM/3DP consulting firm Econolyst Ltd which was acquired by Stratasys in 2015. Phil is widely regarded as a thought leader in understanding the social, economic and environmental impacts of embedding metallic and polymeric AM/3DP into global supply chains.
